About the Author
Susan Fowler is a Site Reliability Engineer at Uber Technologies, where she splits her time between running a production-readiness initiative across all Uber microservices and embedding within business-critical teams to bring their services to a production-ready state. She worked on application platforms and infrastructure at several small startups before joining Uber, and, before that, studied particle physics at Penn, where she searched for supersymmetry and designed hardware for the ATLAS and CMS detectors.

A worthwhile read

The book is really a description of what I would call a quality assurance framework for a microservices environment. Compared to its modest length, it contains quite a number of useful ideas from someone in the trenches.

I wanted to like this book

I wanted to like this book. Though the author cares about her subject and the prose is well-written, I didn't learn a whole lot from it. It felt like a compendium of high-level service architecture concepts that are already familiar to developers who have thought about productionizing more than one service. For developers who have not, it would have been helpful to include real-life examples of failures that were resolved with the production-readiness standards described. The book is a good review of these concepts all in one place and serves well as a checklist for managers. Engineers could use something a little deeper.
