Demystifies Digital Computer Internals. Simply. Clearly.

After hearing about digital computers while in high school (this was mid 80s), I was extremely curious about understanding how these so called 'computers' work. The idea that they can make decisions, remember things etc. was simply fascinating. General popular science articles weren't clear enough to give the complete picture.

I was lucky to find a copy of this book in my school library. I took home this book, and simply read the book through the night. and what an experience it was!.

It builds on absolutely fundamental concepts, logical components, simple logic gates, the mysterious flip-flop, the universal gate, the ROM, and then on to the stored program computer.. the register, program counter, Arithmetic, Logic Unit, The Instruction Decoder. my..my. In such simple terms. and then on to,in fact, build a commercial microprocessor of the age, step by step.

One of those rare , simple elegant books, that can get you started and then hook us on to the subject.

Absolutely relevent today as well. since we still fundamentally use the same architecture, believe it or not.

Excellent Book On Bits, Bytes, Binary, Gates and Logic Design

Malvino has a way with words and manages to simplify many aspects of low level digital electronics. I'm about half-way through the book and already cherish it for its very thorough explanations, starting from the simplest aspects (bits) and working towards more sophisticated elements of circuit design (truth tables with Karnaugh Maps). Along the way you'll take in many lessons on Boolean algebra and simplification techniques (don't let this scare you away - it's really not bad at all).

While the book is definitely old, it's still very relevant, even with all of the improvements to computers over the last few decades. About the only possible complaint I could have at this point in the book is that some of the chapter review questions seem a bit tedious, particularly since we only have half the answers in the back so it's questionable whether those problems are worth doing since you can't confirm whether you correctly understand the material. That aside, there's lots of questions (with answers) along the way within the actual chapter content, so you still have lots of chances to confirm your understanding.

Bottom line, the book is a classic, the writing style is very easy to read, the quality of what it conveys is all-encompassing, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything better on the subject. A must have for your electronics library.

This was supposed to be a bound book. It is nothing but a bunch of non bound sheets of paper fresh off the copier. It was also supposed to come with all the proper forms to start a business but has only authorization to cultivate, authorization to transport and forms for one of two possible non profit There is no "step by step guide to developing a business plan"

There is however a list of all the services they will provide for $2,500...all the things the ad says this book will do for you for $10....

Very disappointed to find this was just copies from a printer. No book here. Could have send it over the computer and printed off at home. Worse $9.99 I have EVER spent. Not to mention, that I am from Maine and the laws are from California, that was my mistake.

Yale Romanization + Chinese characters

Ignore the reviewer who says it's a shame that this book lacks Chinese characters. I just purchased and received my copy. It not only has Chinese characters to go with the Yale romanization system for Cantonese used by the Chinese University of Hong Kong but also has both literal and dynamic translations into English. The latter is a great feature because in many cases Chinese is virtually impossible to translate into English word-for-word. Yet, for those who did not grow up with Cantonese or any other dialect of Chinese, translations for individual words is crucial in order to get some sense of sentences best translated dynamically. Even for those with an intermediate grasp of Cantonese or Mandarin, it's quite helpful to have both types of translation right in front of you. Get this book instead of Basic Cantonese Grammar and Intermediate Cantonese Grammar by the same authors because those two volumes do not have the Chinese characters nor literal translations to accompany dynamic translations. It's worth the cost.

Tiny Images for Chinese Text in the Kindle Version!

I bought the Kindle ebook version, thinking that it would be great to brush up on my Cantonese.

However, the Chinese characters in the ebook are images, and NOT selectable text (unicode). As a result, it is super difficult to look up a character if you are not familiar with it.

Notice that the characters are tiny images. How am I supposed to learn Chinese this way?

Luckily, the images in the other parts of the book are slightly bigger.... but still it would be great if I could select the Chinese character and search for it on the web, so that I could learn about it.

Awesome Book, There isn't anything else out there like it.

It gives the reader all the short cuts needed in order to work out the structural grammar in the spoken language.

Until i found this there was nothing else properly explaining why the grammar is formed in certain ways. Why use this? why use that? In comparison to most other books, i found this to be the most descriptive in sentence structure and break down.

The book description and the book photo don't match. The photo shows the 4th edition. That's what I wanted, and that's what I thought I was buying. But the book that arrived was the 3rd edition. The photo is misleading and should be changed to match the book being sold. To make matters worse, on mobile no edition is stated - all you have to go on is the photo. I have not asked for my money back, but neither do I have the book I wanted.

Great reference

I have a 30 year old version of this book that my mother used in college. If you want to know how to integrate any weird function, look in here. The best table of integrals i've ever seen, and lots of helpful formulas and references. A terrific reference. I have used this book for virtually all my classes as an Electrical Engineering major.

Excellent lookup table for integrals

This book contains a lot of integrals that don't show up in many other references, which makes it very useful. It's not as extensive as Gradshteyn & Ryzhik, but it's a small and compact reference book that can be carried around easily. Highly recommended if you can find a copy.
