Minimizing the Perceived Conception

Esther de Costa Meyer has brought the true modus operandi of the workings of the world's most famous architect. When looking at the finished buildings conceived and designed by Frank Gehry, one immediately conjures images of him sitting in front of his computer creating his advant guard creations. To my amazement, nothing can be farther from the truth.
The Author brings forth Gehry's true conceptualization of his genius. The basic tenants of Gehry's process is to assess what the client needs and instead of creating the structure from the outside in, Gehry does a flip-flop and goes from the inside out. Gehry doesn't touch a computer. The fact of the matter is that Gehry's first love is art and he begins his work by sketching his ideas on paper. In looking at these renderings, they broadly give the basis of architectural thought along with what I would call abstract artistic liberation. At first sight one can envision creative doodling. However in Gehry's grand scheme, he will refine the sketches and later his team of draftsmen will create models in various sizes. Only upon this long and creative process will it be given to his CAD team to be rendered on the computer.
Gehry never touches a computer, he starts with sketches as it evolves on paper, models the structures and finally puts it on the computer chip. Gehry in essence is old school and is more of an artist/grand director of a majestic design symphony for all to see, work in and live in.
These are great renderings and great insights from Esther de Costa Meyer, in which you can do yourself a favor and treat your senses to another world beyond the ordinary.

This is what I have been looking for!

I have been looking for this type of concise information about oil painting. I have only been painting in oils for a little over a year. This is the missing link, the information that is skipped in oil painting classes (at least the one I took). I guess they think you already know the basics. Glazes, mediums, and much more are explained. This covers more than just the techniques in learning to paint, it teaches you to tap into your creativity. Lots of easy to understand exercises. I wish there were more color examples. I would like to see the entire book printed on better paper.

MISunderstanding Foodservice Cost Control

I'm currently taking this class and using this book. This book is really really bad! I'm having to go back and forth with my professor of why my answer is correct over what the book has. I am on week 8 of the semester and so far only 1 chapter from the CD has no error. Professor's looking at getting this book, please, please please DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! This will make your job even harder than it really is. Especially if your class is online, like mine :-(

It won't fit in as new book!

I order a new book, but what i received was ruffled along the edges, front and back covers were bent, back cover sheet was torn, it looked like a used one. It is unprofessional to advertise for a new book and sell a used book. Packaging did not have any bubble wraps and an over-sized box. It just waisted my time.

Poorly written

This book is poorly written, there are a number of typos, words spelled wrong etc. The CD that comes with it has the wrong formulas and the answer key is often incorrect. I had to buy this book for a class, if you don't have to buy it, don't waste your money!

Excellent Source of Official Questions (Unless you own previous edition) Poor Quiz Engine

First of all - if you own the previous version (13th edition), there are no new questions in the this book. The only reason you may want to purchase these is to have the online quiz engine available to you but it is a pretty bad system and not worth buying the guide for.

~~~ Strengths ~~~
1. Real GMAT questions retired from past tests - 907 real GMAT questions retired from past tests.
2. Online quiz engine allows you to build practice sets using the OG but it is very weak and cumbersome (more below)
3. Practice questions follow actual GMAT test patterns (it's great to have one's ear trained, esp. in verbal)
4. Overview of the Integrated Reasoning section (50 questions online)

~~~ Weaknesses ~~~
1. The quiz system is too simplistic and cumbersome. For example I have no idea how to start working on question 10. I have to restart from the beginning every single time and it seems it is not even tracking what questions I have attempted??? Very odd... perhaps I have been spoiled with good GMAT Prep and other CAT Test interfaces. I am struggling here. The exclusive videos are also not much to write about; it is very similar to what you can find on GMAC's youtube channel.
2. Questions are EASY in general (only about 5 questions are really a 750 level) based on GMAT Club member feedback. Here are the hardest ones: (V Diag 25, PS 218, DS 129, DS 131, DS 141).
3. Does not include any test-taking strategies. Though it has a few short review sections for each area, they are weak and very unfriendly
4. Questions are predominantly low to medium in difficulty which is often not representative of questions one encounters on the test
5. We really could have used some new questions. The official Guide questions are generally on the EASY side.
6. There is a 100% overlap with previous edition. 13th Edition has an 83% overlap with the 12th edition. 12th edition has a 66% overlap the 11th edition.

P.S. If you own the previous 13th edition, I could see some still buying the book for the advantage of having the online practice quiz access, but the issues that the online quiz engine has I would not buy it.

Official Questions (Generally easy and medium difficulty)

I started GMAT Club - online MBA community; my GMAT score is 750 (49, 42), and here are my thoughts about this book:
First of all - if you own the previous version (2nd Edition), there are no new questions in the this book. The only reason you may want to purchase these is to have the online quiz engine available to you but it is a pretty bad system and not worth buying the guide for. (see screenshots I uploaded). It may be worth it, if the system is improved.

The main issue with the first edition was low question difficulty. This edition addresses the issue slightly, but as you can see, not by much. One issue that was fixed is the total number of questions. The first edition claimed (just like this one) to have 300 questions, but only had 294 - how can you make that mistake in the Official Guide for Quantitative Review? The question split is 176 for PS and 124 for DS.

~~~ Strengths ~~~
1. Real GMAT questions retired from past tests
2. Online quiz engine allows you to build practice sets using the OG but it is very weak and cumbersome (more below)
3. Practice questions follow actual GMAT test patterns (it's great to have one's ear trained, esp. in verbal)
